The Football League Cup, commonly known as the League Cup or, from current sponsorship, the Carling Cup, is an English football competition. Like the FA Cup, it is played on a knockout (single elimination) basis. Unlike the FA Cup where 762 teams entered in 2008–09 only 92 clubs can enter—the 20 clubs of the Premier League, and the 72 clubs of The Football League, which organises the competition. Also unlike the FA Cup, the semi-finals are played over two legs. The winners qualify for the UEFA Europa League, if they have not qualified for European competition through the Premier League or by winning the FA Cup. If this occurs, then the Europa League berth goes to the highest-placed team from the Premier League not already qualified for Europe. Manchester United are the current holders. Since 1982, the League Cup has been named after its sponsor, giving it the following names: Milk Cup (1981 to 1986), sponsored by the Milk Marketing Board Littlewoods Challenge Cup (1986 to 1990), sponsored by Littlewoods Rumbelows Cup (1990 to 1992), sponsored by Rumbelows Coca-Cola Cup (1992 to 1998), sponsored by Coca-Cola Worthington Cup (1998 to 2003), sponsored by Worthington Draught bitter Carling Cup (2003 to present), sponsored by Carling -

Anything Palmeiras created a new topic Palmeiras in the forums.
Hi there,
My name is Kristian and I'm running the blog Anything Palmeiras. In this forum, I will be posting updated info on the life of Brazilian football club Palmeiras (duh). I hope you enjoy my posts. Please comment! And feel free to visit my blog at anythingpalmeiras.wordpress.com. --- ooo --- Obituary – José Panzarini This morning José Panzarini, the gentleman responsible for player's shirts, shoes and additional equipment in Palmeiras since 1981, passed away. "Seu Panza", as he was affectionately called, will be missed by all those who work at Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras or has passed through the football department. Fluminense 1-1 Palmeiras Palmeiras took on leader Fluminense at the Maracana stadium on Wednesday. Fluminense scored after 15 minutes and then fell back, looking for opportunities to counterattack and kill the game. Palmeiras had the upper hand for most of the game and created several chances – including a goal by Kleber incorrectly flagged for offside (the final pass was made by a Fluminense defender) – but at times suffered with the occasional Fluminense charge. In the very end, a fierce Palmeiras' blitz paid off beautifully: with three minutes of stoppage time, Tinga drew the ball far, finding Edinho free to head the ball to Ewerthon, who had all the time in the world to dominate and execute the shot. 1-1 was the end result; a draw with the sweet taste of victory. Watch the highlights here. Belluzzo and the windmills In a meeting with members of the "Club of 13" – composed of the major football teams in Brazil – Palmeiras' president Belluzzo aired his frustration in regard to the most recent chapters in the never ending drama of constructing a new stadium for Palmeiras. "There's a manifestation of bureaucratic stupidity" he complained in reference to excessive demands for additional studies on anything from stadium noise to truck movements to/from the construction site. Despite all obstacles, construction is expected to start as of mid September. Lincoln - laundry washing in public Lincoln is not too happy about Palmeiras owing him money, driving him to write a letter to the Club, requesting that the payment be made. Palmeiras director Savério Orlandi confirms that Palmeiras is in debt with Lincoln, but assures that everything will be solved within 15 days. Perhaps Lincoln's attitude was not the smartest. Of course, he has the right to his money. But he's been injured for some time, letting both supporters and coach Scolari rather frustrated. On top of that, rumour has it that he's not satisfied with being less in the lime light than the likes of Valdivia and Kleber. Scolari is known for his short tolerance; unless Lincoln get his priorities right he might be out the door sooner than he imagines. |

vasart1 created a new topic Euro 2012. Ukraine in the forums.
Hello, everyone!
Euro 2012 (in Ukraine-Poland) is very soon. It's really time to think about where to stay in Ukraine, where to go, where to eat, when's the final game in Kiev, how to order a taxi, what's the cheapest etc. As a citizen of Kiev (capital of Ukraine) I can say you that the prices will rise from day to day, the hotel appartments wil be less and less. We'd like to announce a new service: you can call us using the Skype and figure out all the questions you have about Euro 2012. Our login is: ukraine-2012 We do not provide any services like booking, flight etc., but we really can advise you how to make your trip to Ukraine as comfort as it possible. It's more like customers care. Of course, if you'd like we can advise you the travel agency, booking services. Welcome to Ukraine! Waiting for your calls 24 hours any day. |

King Arthur I am very proud of Milan right now. Not just because they won 4-0 & not because they signed Ibrahimovic either. I'm proud of them because Allegri used 7 Italians in the starting line-up yesterday & 2 more Italian subs. Thats unheard of in today's football. I'm not Italian myself & I have nothing against foreign players. Some of the greatest players in the history of Milan were foreign. In fact I became a Milan supporter because of Marco Van Basten, but I think its important to use at least 4 or 5 home grown players in the starting line-up. I'm not just talking about Italy either. Some English, German, Spanish, French & Portuguese teams use too many foreigners. I can't respect a team like Arsenal, Chelsea or Inter when they start 9 or 10 foreign players. I think thats realy disrespectful to the home country.

Well said and you are right it doesnt happen at enough clubs. Milan are setting a good example that other teams should take note of. In the long term it will be good for the national team. Its also gr8 that some of the Italian players are also young ones for the future. Lets hope it continues. FORZA MILAN xxx I hope AC Milan wins the Scudetto this year! They are sure giving the example to all teams in Europe. Glad to see that they are giving the opportunity for home grown talent! There are a few big clubs that use a lot home grown players. Barcelona is the best example. Sure, they always sign big name foreign players but most of their players are Spanish (or Catalan). That's one of the main reasons why Spain won the World Cup, while England & Italy struggled. When big clubs use too many foreigners, National Team coaches have to select players from mid-table teams. Players from small teams dont have much international experience because they dont play in the Champions League or Europa League. It's a little different for Holland, Brazil & Argentina. Most of their star players play in different leagues in Europe, but they usually play for big clubs and have plenty of experience. |

Scott AVFC It was great to see Villa beat Everton last night. In your face dad!!! hahaha. To be honest I was surpised because Everton dominanated most of the possession but the defence worked hard and took 3 valuable points!! I was also very happy with the Milan result. I have a feeling it will be a good season for the Rossoneri!!

Hey Mike. I hope the La liga this year brings more excitement than previous years. But, I really doubt that. In the end we will see Barcelona and Real Madrid fighting for the title. In my opinion Barcelona still one step ahead of Real Madrid because they have a team that has been playing great together and has become stronger by signing Villa and Mascherano. What are your opinions? |

King Arthur I must say, Adriano Galliani is a fucking genius. To sign a player like Zlatan for only €24 Million Euro is incredible. Sometimes he gets unfairly criticized because Berlusconi family don't give him enough funds to buy players. Galliani and sporting director Ariedo Braida are responsible for building some of the great Milan teams of the last 22 years, but usually Berlusconi is the one who gets the credit. I know they have made some bad decisions in the past, like signing Ricardo Oliveira, or giving long term contracts to Oddo, Kaladze & Jankulovski, but all big clubs do that. Thats the nature of the business. This time though, Galliani was pure genius.

King Arthur It looks like Klaas jan Huntelaar will join Schalke 04. The official announcement could come as early as sunday. Schalke will pay Milan somwhere between €12 and €13 Million Euro. Good luck in the Bundesliga Klaas. i always liked him and I will continue to support him. Unfortunately he didn't play much in Milan but I hope he has great success with Schalke.

They don`t have a sponsor. They sponsor Unicef. Maybe Nike make the kits. I'm sure Nike pays to have their logo stamped in the Barcelona stadium. I never seen such a big Nike sign in my life! Liverpool have a massive addidas logo in the seats at Anfield. |
